CU Football Media Day: Karl Dorrell and Players Discuss Buffs' Outlook

Buffs Kick Off the 2023 Season with Confidence

Dorrell and Players Express Optimism for Upcoming Season

Boulder, Colo. - The University of Colorado football team held its annual media day on Tuesday, August 9th, where head coach Karl Dorrell and several players discussed the team's outlook for the upcoming season.

Coach Dorrell expressed confidence in his team's preparation and said he believes they are ready to compete at a high level in 2023. "I like the way our team has come together this offseason," said Dorrell. "We have a lot of talented players who are eager to prove themselves."

Several players echoed Dorrell's optimism, including senior quarterback J.T. Shrout. "We have a great group of guys who are working hard and pushing each other to be better," said Shrout. "I'm excited to see what we can accomplish this season."

The Buffs will open the 2023 season on the road against TCU on September 2nd. They will then host Air Force on September 9th in their home opener.

Key Storylines for the 2023 Season

Quarterback Competition

One of the biggest storylines for the Buffs this season will be the quarterback competition between J.T. Shrout and Brendon Lewis. Both quarterbacks have starting experience and will be looking to prove they are the best option to lead the Buffs' offense.

Offensive Line

The Buffs' offensive line will be another key storyline to watch in 2023. The Buffs lost several starters from last year's team, so they will need to find some new players to step up and fill those roles.

Defense

The Buffs' defense is expected to be one of the strengths of the team in 2023. The Buffs return several starters from last year's team, including All-American linebacker Nate Landman.

Players to Watch

J.T. Shrout, Quarterback

Shrout is a senior quarterback who transferred to Colorado from Tennessee in 2022. He started the final four games of the season for the Buffs and played well, throwing for 875 yards and six touchdowns with two interceptions.

Brendon Lewis, Quarterback

Lewis is a redshirt sophomore quarterback who started the first eight games of the season for the Buffs in 2022. He threw for 1,560 yards and 10 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Nate Landman, Linebacker

Landman is a senior linebacker who is one of the best defensive players in the country. He was named an All-American by the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation in 2022.

Outlook

The Buffs are hoping to improve on their 4-8 record from last season. They have a lot of talent on their roster, but they will need to stay healthy and play together as a team in order to be successful.
